2019 Area 2 Spring Key Leadership Conference – 3/30/19

The Area Two Committee extends to you a most cordial invitation to attend the upcoming Area Key Leadership Conference – March 30th at Iona Prep in New Rochelle NY. This conference is designed to meet your needs in the important leadership position you hold with your council. The sessions that will be held include topics important to successful council and district operations. Additionally, this is a great opportunity to join in Scouting fellowship and network with other Area Two Scouters.

We will offer information, support tools, and know-how to help you be successful in your Scouting responsibilities.  Presenting the latest methods, materials and best practices will be various national, regional and local volunteers as well as BSA professionals.

We will be offering 23 separate “breakouts” so there is truly something for everyone!! Key topics will include:

  • Membership – Family Scouting, Scouts BSA and Exploring
  • Program – NCAP, Resident Camping, Training, Sea Scouting, Venturing and Order of the Arrow
    Commissioner Service
  • Leadership & Performance – Board Development & Engagement, JTE and District Operations
  • And many more!

We are also excited to welcome several guest speakers who will present at our opening session and during lunch.  Scott Berger, chairman of the National Scouts BSA Committee will serve as our keynote speaker. We will also be welcoming our Northeast Region president, Scott Christensen and Northeast Region director, John Mosby. Additionally, we are excited to have Dan Warren who serves as the BSA’s resident expert on youth development at the BSA National Service Center, to share his latest findings and trends, as well as Amy Hutcherson, who serves as our Northeast Region membership growth coach.

Who Should Attend?

All Council and District level volunteers as well as our professional staff teams in Area 2. All other active key leaders are encouraged to attend as well. With a large variety of tracks and breakouts, we recommend each Council send a large contingent that way you can divide and conquer; sending your volunteers and staff teams to all of the sessions in order to take advantage of the variety of information that will be available through the conference.

Conference Cost: $30 – Includes a continental breakfast, lunch, commemorative recognition, and all conference materials.

Conference Attire: BSA Field Uniform or “Executive Casual” are appropriate. (No ties or jackets required)

Scott Christensen - Area 2 PresidentGreetings Scouters and welcome to the Northeast Region, Area 2 Website.  Area 2 includes 11 Councils, in 3 different states (NY, CT and MA).  With over 30,000 adult volunteers, we serve more than 84,000 youth members in over 3,000 units (Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturers & Explorers).  We have over 600 Commissioners providing outstanding unit service and a total professional staff of 102.  Our Councils provide exciting year-round programs in 22 separate outdoor camps.  Last year Councils in our Area logged over 279,000 hours of community service from Eagle Scout Projects and reported the advancement of 1,787 Eagle Scouts.  Our Venturing program boasts nearly 3700 members.  We have two dynamic Order of the Arrow Sections with over 5,800 members from 11 different lodges.  The Scouting program is dynamic and multifaceted and the mission of Area 2 is to make our 11 Councils and the programs they deliver the best they can be.

On Saturday, April 11, 2015 Area 2 held its annual spring key leadership conference at Iona Preparatory School in New Rochelle, NY. Over the last few years this event has become more and more popular in the Area and continues to grow each year. In attendance at this years event were 130 people with representation from all 11 Area 2 member Councils. As usual the training, general session and breakout sessions focused on key topics Membership, Retention and other key Goals for the Region and Area.

The Area 2 Committee would like to thank all of those in attendance for taking time to travel and attend the event. Additionally, this is a great opportunity to join in Scouting fellowship and network with other Area Two Scouters and Leaders.

The Conference has been established to offer you the best and latest information, support tools, and know-how to help you be successful in your Scouting responsibilities.  Presenting the latest methods, materials and best practices will be various national, regional and local volunteers as well as BSA professionals.

The Area Key Leadership Forum is a full-day program designed for to bring together key leaders within Area 2. The program typically appeals to council leadership including:Council Presidents, Council Commissioners, Scout Executives, Directors of Field Service, Assistant Scout Executives, Field Directors, Vice Presidents of Program, Development, Finance, Administration, NCAP Chairs, District Key 3 Volunteers and Professionals, Council Officers, Board Members, Executive Committee, Council Committee Chairs, Key Council Professionals and other Key Area Leadership. The Forum serves as a useful exchange of experience, best practices and ideas to help you and your council leadership tackle your challenges.
